What to Expect from Your First Counselling Session
Your first session is a gentle introduction to the therapeutic process. It’s an opportunity to share what’s brought you to therapy, explore the challenges you're facing, and begin thinking about what you hope to gain. This session is offered at a reduced rate of £30 for individuals or £50 for couples, giving you a chance to get a feel for how I work without a full financial commitment.
The session lasts 60 minutes and includes time to go over the counselling agreement, which outlines how we will work together. You’ll have space to talk freely and ask any questions you might have. Most importantly, it gives you the opportunity to decide whether you feel comfortable with me as your counsellor — because a good therapeutic relationship is at the heart of meaningful progress.
Confidentiality, Cancellations, and Commitment
Everything we discuss in your sessions remains confidential, creating a safe space for you to express yourself without judgement. There are rare legal exceptions to this, which will be explained clearly during your first session.
Life happens – and if you ever need to reschedule, I simply ask for 24 hours’ notice. Cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice will be charged at the full session rate. If I ever need to cancel, I will always offer you a new time at no extra cost.
Counselling can be short-term or long-term, depending on your goals and personal pace. Some people benefit from a handful of sessions; others choose to continue for months or longer. You are under no obligation to commit to a set number of sessions – this is your journey, and it unfolds in your own time.
